EHF Executive Committee Round-up

Introduction

The EHF Executive Committee met for the first time of the new electoral period (2008 – 2012) on 23 October 2008 at the EHF Headquarters in Vienna/AUT. This was the first in a series of meetings at the Headquarters over the period 22 – 25 October, with newly assigned and elected technical bodies meeting to define the strategy, work and duties for the coming term of office.

Daily business

As with tradition, the meeting commenced with the approval of the Minutes from the last meeting. Reports followed from the Finance Delegation and Secretary General. Before moving onto the defining of the Bodies and their working structure, current and approaching events and competitions were touched on, with focus on EHF EURO 2008, to take place in December in FYR Macedonia.

Congress follow-up and analysis

It goes without saying that the Congress was a major point on the agenda, with structural alignments and decisions being dealt with.

Internal working procedures

The Executive discussed working procedures for the period 2008 – 2012, passing a code of conduct which will apply to the EHF and persons working in connection with the EHF events and competitions. The main objective the meeting was the definition of the structure, responsibilities and timelines for the coming years.

EHF working structure

The EHF structure has been adapted in line with the Congress decisions, President Tor Lian welcomed the fact that all elected members, including new positions, will be meeting over the coming days or in the case of the Legal Bodies within the next weeks, “it is important to keep the momentum flowing, and integrate all elected members into the Bodies, while involving all stakeholders, in order for work to commence immediately!”

Appointment to groups and internal definition of working areas

The Executive set about defining clear working areas and in accordance with the decisions of the EHF Congress concerning the introduction of technical working bodies, selected or confirmed the members of the respective groups.

The Executive carried-out the internal nomination of the members to the Finance Delegation, Legal Delegation and Social Fund and the newly introduced Technical Delegation and EURO Delegation.

The members of the recently announced Technical Refereeing Committee were also nominated from the external proposals by the EHF Federations: CC Refereeing Andorka (Chairman), Domenge/FRA, Jensen/DEN, D. Nachevski/MKD, Konecny/CZE.

It was agreed to introduce a Technical Scientific Committee, with nominations to follow in due course.

In addition to this, former Competitions Commission Chairman, Josef Ambrus, was appointed to the position of Initiator of Proceedings.

International Sporting Bodies

Matters relating to the areas of Masters (veteran activities) and Athlete questions will be dealt with by the appointed Executive Committee members directly, the Committee also acts as the direct contact body for partners: European Youth Olympic Festival, USPE (Police Sports Association), EUSA (European University Sports Association) and ISF (International School Sports Federation) – the responsible Executive members for each area were selected.

Lecturers and experts

The Technical Delegation will be responsible for the selection of lecturers for the following areas: Refereeing/Delegates, Methodical Questions and Beach Handball.

Meeting master plan

In order for all bodies to work in cohesion, a master plan schedule of meetings was set down for 2008 and 2009, which will form the framework to work to.

Task Force – EURO Calendar

As previously reported, the EHF will introduce a Task Force to deal with the crucial matter of scheduling. A meeting has already been held with the top nations and the IHF to discuss this complex subject. This took place at the adidas Headquarters in Herzogenaurach on the weekend 18/19 October. It was agreed upon that the first meeting of the Task Force will take place on 5 December 2008 in Skopje, MKD, on the occasion of the EHF EURO 2008. The input from the meeting in Herzogenaurach will form the basis of the first working session.

Conference of Presidents

The 9th Conference of President has been awarded to Cyprus, it will take place in Limassol on 23/24 October 2009.

Conclusion

The next meeting will be held during the final weekend of EHF EURO 2008 from 12-13 December 2008. EHF President closed the constructive and productive meeting with the words, “we will take on the challenges of the sporting world together, in close consultation with all stakeholders, act as an ambassador of our sport, provide a service and work in the interest of the future of European handball in accordance with the European Sports Model. I can speak on behalf of the entire EHF Executive by saying we are looking forward to taking on these challenges and fulfilling our objectives.”
