Executive Meeting in Vienna

The first Executive Committee Meeting of 2009 is coming up this weekend, 28-29 March 2009, in the EHF Headquarters, Vienna.

The meeting will follow an agenda that will cover all the fields of activities of the Federation and European handball.

The two-day meeting will open with the reports of the President, Vice President, Treasurer and Secretary General to the members of the Executive Committee. The body will then oversee the work carried out within the various Technical Commissions, Committees and legal bodies. Proposals tabled by these bodies will be discussed.

The EHF National Team Events will be an important part of the agenda. A follow-up will be presented to the Committee in regards to the Women’s EHF EURO 2008 that took place in FYR Macedonia, in December last year. At the same time, the Committee will deal with the preparation level and the status of the events scheduled for the period 2009-12 with a special focus on the 2009 events.

The calendar of the EURO Events for the period 2011-13 will be analysed taking possible adjustments into account based on the inputs of the EURO Calendar Task Force.

The situation of the EHF competitions, in the light of the alleged manipulation attempts reported by the international media and the follow-up by the EHF, will be in the focus of the meeting.

The members of the Executive Committee will receive a detailed report on the matter. The document will analyse a number of key factors, such as the preparation of referees, match organisation questions and the shortcomings of the current reporting system. The Executive Committee will confront the situation on a strategic level by discussing mid- and long term proposals and by taking the necessary decisions.

Another major topic will be the future of the EHF Men’s Champions League. The application of an adjusted playing system – reducing the number of teams from the current 32 to 24 as of next season – will also be addressed by the Executive Committee together with a possible introduction of a Final Four weekend to conclude the Men’s CL season.

The meeting will also be an occasion to prepare for the Conference of Presidents, coming up in October 2009 in Cyprus, and to deal with questions related to international handball.

Information about decisions and measures taken by the Executive Committee will be announced to the public at the EHF Press Conference that will close the event in the EHF Headquarters on Sunday, 29 March at 11hrs.
