Tragic events over the weekend

It is the sad duty of the European Handball Federation to report the passing of two former international referees who both dedicated themselves to the education of their younger colleagues.

Per Godsk Jørgensen

The Danish EHF delegate, Per Godsk Jørgensen, passed away on 29 August after short illness at the age of 67.

Jørgensen had an extremely rich and successful refereeing career with appearances at World Championships and Olympic Games. He contributed to a total of 415 international matches. After retiring, he served the European Handball Federation as delegate since the very early days of the EHF competitions. He remained active until very recently with his last game as a delegate taking place just four months ago.

Josef Valenta

Former EHF referee, Josef Valenta, died on 28 August at the age of 62.

The Czech sportsman was active for the European Handball Federation in the period 1994 to 1998. He used to whistle together with several Czech partners in the 80's and 90's as well as with Jacek Wroblewski from Poland until 1998.
