New IT tools in the service of handball development

Developing European Handball with the means of education – coaches’, referees’ or delegates’ – is a key area of EHF activities. The EHF CAN (Competence Academy&Network) is the educational service centre of the EHF that aims to foster know-how transfer between the EHF Member Federations.

The new Event Management Archive Tool – carried out by EHF CAN in cooperation with the EHF IT partner EOSData – is yet another giant step in this development work.

With the introduction of this tool, all EHF Lecturers, EHF Technical Commissions and selected guests can find and download all EHF CAN course documents which were made available by other lecturers and the EHF.

The EHF provided usernames and passwords for this methodological database to defined target groups. From now on, the "EHF Family" internet portal provides educational course documents to and from lecturers in the field of refereeing, delegates, coaching and Beach Handball – starting with year 1999.

EHF CAN presenters in the future can share and edit course documents and as soon as approved by the EHF, the uploaded documents are accessible for the entire EHF CAN user group. As an additional feature, the documents can also be posted on the EHF Activities website.

The other brand-new service for lecturers is a video sharing platform including a huge amount of teaching material.

The new online video archive includes thousands of short handball videos which are easy to find when a lecturer is looking for a certain match situation. The videos may also be downloaded and stored.

So far 1,725 short clips – all from the Men’s EHF EURO 2010 in Austria – are available in the system for EHF teaching purposes. This service will be offered to the National Federations for their internal referee training activities before the start of the new season.

Helmut Höritsch, EHF CAN Coordinator, summarises the advantages of the tools:

"This is a great teaching tool that will open up a big archive of teaching aids of all kinds for our selected teaching staff on all levels. For example we can already provide 1,725 refereeing clips taken from the EHF EURO 2010 for teaching purposes to the National Federations. The videos were supplied with the help of our video analysis software provided by the EHF partner SportVAS."
