Women’s Handball Development Programme

After a first meeting in Rotterdam (NED), in the frame of the 2011 Women’s 19 European Championship, the EHF Women’s Handball Development Programme Steering Group assembled for their second meeting in Aarhus (DEN).

The meeting took place at the occasion of the 2011 GF Word Cup, a woman handball tournament for national teams organised by the Danish Handball Association.

The Steering Group composed of chairperson Marit Breivik (NOR), Arne Elovsson (SWE), Narcisa Lecusanu (ROU), Panis Linde (BEL), Carmen Manchado (ESP) and Katrine Thoe Nielsen (DEN).

It was created after the 2011 EHF Extraordinary Congress this May in Cologne (GER) in order to discuss the future of women handball as well as to find solutions to ensure more girls and women in European handball at all levels, both mid and long-term.

The meeting on 22 September 2011 ended with clear proposals in various fields like competitions, representation within the EHF and the national handball federations, branding, recruitment, grass root etc.

The proposals were presented to the EHF Executive Committee by Arne Elovsson during their meeting in London on 23 September 2011.

The Steering Group will continue to work on each proposal in order to present a comprehensive concept to the national handball federations at the occasion of the EHF Conference of Presidents, which will be organised in November in the framework of the EHF 20 years anniversary of the European Handball Federation.
