Nations Board meets in Vienna

The first meeting of the newly elected members of the EHF Nations Board took place at the EHF Office on Tuesday, 18 September 2012.

The members present, elected at the EHF Congress in Monaco in June 2012, included: Morten Stig Christensen (DEN), Phillipe Bana (FRA), Heiner Brand (GER), Marek Goralczyk (POL) and Lúcás Ó’Ceallacháin (IRL). Martin Simonides (SVK) was also elected to the Board but was not present at the meeting.

Also in attendance were the EHF President, Jean Brihault, EHF Secretary General, Michael Wiederer and members of the EHF Office.

Introduced into the EHF structure in 2010, the Nations Board is an autonomous group of experts representing the interests of the Member Federations. The Board works to ensure the development of the sport, representing the interests of the emerging and established national federations and submitting proposals to the Professional Handball Board and EHF Executive Committee.

Morten Stig Christensen and Philippe Bana were re-elected as chairman and vice chairmain respectively and will continue to represent the Nations Board on the Professional Handball Board, which is set to meet in Vienna on 23 October.

Areas of discussion for the Board included the international competition structure, qualification system to EHF and IHF national team competitions, the Younger Age Category events as well as the task distribution and role of the Nations Board over the next four years.
