Viborg sack their head coach

Six duels without a single point in the Women´s EHF Champions League Group Matches was more than the management in the ambitious Danish top club Viborg HK could live with.

Tuesday the club announced that head coach Martin Albertsen is leaving the job with immediate effect. According to an official statement from the club, Albertsen is continuing in another function in the club.

“We are determined to be a club who is part of the top in European women´s handball. We expect that from ourselves, and those are also the expectations our sponsors and our fans have in us.

"We have to realise, however, that while we are in the top of the Danish league, we still need something that can take us further in a European aspect. We think that new inspiration and new thoughts are needed, and we have wanted to start this process right away, when we have a natural break in the season.

"Therefore we have agreed with Martin Albertsen that he is transferred to other assignments related to the club´s international network,” Viborg´s sports director Susanne Munk Wilbek explained.

“I would like to emphasise that we have been very happy with the enormous and enthusiastic effort Martin has provided for Viborg HK during his one and a half year as head coach,” added the sports director who expects to be able to announce a new head coach within two weeks.

“The new coach will be responsible for keeping us in the top of the Danish league and to secure European participation next season,” Susanne Munk Wilbek said.

Until a new head coach is appointed, assistant coach Mads Møller will be taking over of the training of the few Viborg players who are not at EHF EURO 2012 in Serbia.
