Hungary sits on top of the new women's club ranking for 2015/16

Hungary maintained its position on the throne of the European women's club handball as the European Handball Federation released the new EHF Ranking List for the 2015/16 season. Mainly thanks to the victory of Györi Audi ETO KC in the first edition of the Women's EHF FINAL4 Hungary was able to defend its leading position ahead of Denmark as both countries surpassed 100 points plateau and can claim two places in the next season of the Women's EHF Champions League.

On the following places currently third Russia exchanged the position with Norway (now on 4) and Romania stayed on the fifth rank. Slovakia recorded a record move as they climbed up seven places from 32 to 25, while Serbia sank by four from 13 to 17.

The distribution of places in the European Cups is a result of the EHF Ranking List which is a summary of the results in all four EHF women’s club competitions of the seasons 2011/12, 2012/13 and 2013/14. The current season is not considered for the EHF Ranking List, but it will be considered in June/July 2015 for the seeding of the new participants in the various competitions of 2015/16.

The procedure for the awarding of additional places is planned to remain unchanged to last season, so each federation will have the right to ask for an additional place in the Women’s EHF Champions League.

The awarding of additional places to those federations and clubs who requested a place was based on a number of criteria evaluating the clubs concerned (venue, TV, ranking in the domestic league, spectators, performance in past EHF club competitions, sponsoring potential, implementation of duties and regulations and new media). The final version of this list of criteria was confirmed by the EHF Executive Committee in its meeting in Budapest at the end of December 2014.
