EHF enters into negotiations with Infront Sports & Media and Perform

The EHF Executive Committee has given the green light for negotiations to begin with Infront Sports & Media and Perform for the federation’s long-term audio-visual and marketing rights for its club and national team competitions.

The decision at the Executive Committee meeting in Zagreb on Friday, 26 January 2018, ahead of the final weekend of the Men’s EHF EURO 2018, signals the final stage in a tender process that was launched on 18 September 2017.

Seven initial bids from leading sports marketing agencies and media companies were received for the rights and, following several rounds of talks and a final bidding round with the companies concerned, three firm offers now remain on the table.

Infront Sports & Media, a Wanda Sports Company, is a longstanding partner of the EHF and currently holds the media and marketing rights for the EHF EURO events through to 2020.

The Swiss-based media and marketing agency, has tendered for all of the EHF’s club and national team rights in a joint bid with Perform, the leading digital sports content and media group.

Detailed negotiations will now begin between the EHF and the Infront Sports & Media/Perform consortium to reach a final agreement.

The two remaining bids will be considered if an agreement cannot be reached.

The package of rights available includes proposals for a revamped club competition system, with a new format in the EHF Champions League, the creation of a ‘European Handball League’ on the second tier of European competition and a new ‘EHF Cup’ to replace the existing Challenge Cup.

Also part of the package are the federation’s flagship national team competitions including the EHF EURO events, with an expanded men’s final tournament from 2020 onwards, as well as younger age category and beach handball competitions.
