European Handball HackDays focus on future of match data visualisation and usage

“Let’s innovate use cases for match data together!” This is the claim of the first Hackathon in European handball. The EHF Marketing is looking for programmers, developers, handball experts, fans, students, creative thinkers and sports enthusiasts with fresh and innovative ideas.

The European Handball Federation’s subsidiary is staging the European Handball HackDays as part of the European Handball Talks, the business side event of the VELUX EHF FINAL4, on 24 and 25 May 2018 in Cologne.

European Handball HackDays

The European Handball HackDays are a bit more than one day of ‘hacking’ to innovate the way different target groups are using match data. EHF Marketing has teamed up with the official data and streaming partner of the EHF Club Competitions Sportradar, as well as Kinexon and Athletia Sports to set up this event.

20 participants have the chance to present their ideas and thoughts in front of an experienced jury. Starting already on Thursday evening, 24 May 2018 with a get-together and warm up, the teams use Friday, 25 May 2018, to work on new ideas in three different data challenges:

  • Use cases for fan engagement and fan experience
  • Use cases for marketing purposes
  • Use cases for livestreaming

The Package

What’s in it for the participants? The hackers are receiving tickets for the VELUX EHF FINAL4, as well as for the Opening Party on Friday and the Player’s Night on Sunday.

EHF Marketing its and partners will provide access to match data feeds and video material as well as competent contact persons from all partners on site. Participants will need to bring their own laptops. Food and drinks will be provided.
