Clinic at Women's Trophy gives coaches valuable input

In the sidelines of the IHF/EHF Women’s Trophy 2018 in Bosnia and Hercegovina, which runs through Sunday 3 June, the European Handball Federation has organised a Coaches' Clinic as part of its efforts to strengthen the development of women’s handball in Europe.

On Friday, the head coach and an assistant coach of all eight teams participating in the Women’s Trophy, accompanied by 12 local coaches, took part in the clinic in Tuzla.

Led by EHF lecturer Milan Petronijevic, the theoretical part in the morning hours focused on two topics. First, the clinic tried to explore what it takes to make a new handball champion: what are the methodological aspects of a sports career?

In the second part of the morning programme the attention shifted to a qualitative analysis of women’s top level handball.

After the lunch break, the clinic moved to the sports hall for the practical part.

The coaches first had a closer look at the methodological approach (progression of exercise) of the running shot. Next up were the technical and tactical aspects of the individual skills in defence.

The full-day programme was concluded by a discussion, reflecting on the clinic, and an exchange of ideas regarding the further improvement of women’s handball in Europe.
