Record number of teams vie for new titles at the EHF European Masters 2018

The EHF European Masters Championships are to return to Austria for the first time since the inaugural event was played in Vienna in 2003. A decision of the EHF Executive Committee will see Innsbruck play host to the event from 7 to 10 June 2018.

The 15th edition of the event has been awarded to the Austrian Handball Federation with local organisation from the Tyrolean Handball Federation.

The all-time record number of 63 Teams from 19 countries will be competing in five age categories.

In the men's competition the teams are divided into three categories, +35 (11 teams in two groups), +45 (16 teams in four groups) and +50 (16 teams in four groups). There are two age categories in the women's competition, +33 (6 teams in one group) and +43 (14 teams in two groups).

Following the preliminary round and the main round, the first two teams of each group qualify for the semi-finals which will be played on 9 June.

At the 2017 Masters in Gondomar, Portugal, the Portuguese Gaia Porto Masters women's team won the +33, while Angyalok triumphed in the +43 competition and the Hungarian side can add the third title in a row in Innsbruck. Porto Masters won the men's +35 event, the Budapest Old Boys the +45 competition and Odessa from Ukraine the +50 tournament. Also Budapest Old Boys are vying for the third straight title in Innsbruck.
