Satisfaction all-round in ‘Quotes of the Week’

The Women’s EHF Champions League Main Round drew to a close on Sunday, which saw eight teams move on to the quarter-finals while it was the end of the road for four clubs.

Some of the eliminated teams were able to bow out on a high, while the qualified teams are pumped for the quarter-finals, which is reflected in our quotes of the week.

4. Claus Mogensen, Kobenhavn Handbold coach

“I believe that the victory today confirmed that we are able to compete with the best teams in Europe, when we are at our best. We are of course disappointed that the journey ends here, but we are proud to have closed the Champions League season in the best possible way by beating the number one of the group.”

The coach of the Danish side enjoyed his team’s performance against Metz Handball, in which they managed to beat the group winners 36:33.

3. Ambros Martin, Rostov-Don coach

“We are satisfied to close the second part of the season. We do not like to look back, but our team took part in all competitions. Now we will fight for the key moments in these tournaments.”

Could Rostov reach their second straight DELO WOMEN'S EHF FINAL4? Their second place in Group A suggests so, but the Russian side will first have to get past in-form FTC, which will not be an easy matter. But for coach Ambros Martin, there is a lot to look forward to in the final stages of the season.

2. Herbert Müller, Thüringer HC coach

“That one point is like a win for us and I really want to congratulate my team. Also I really hope that CSM Bucuresti will manage to reach Budapest, because I know they are a great team.”

German side Thüringer HC managed to grab one point against Bucharest on Friday. Although they were well out of contention for the quarter-finals, Herbert Müller still enjoyed the fact that his team fought all the way until the end.

“Now this is it, we will play against Metz and will give everything we can. I am proud of my teammates, we are really giving our best and will keep fighting until the end of the season.”

Former Women’s EHF Champions League winner CSM Bucuresti have qualified for the quarter-finals and will be playing against Metz, in a re-match of last season. Without Cristina Neagu, the Romanian side might not be favourites, but they will still give everything they have to go back to Budapest in May.
