New schedule and host city for Women’s EHF EURO 2020

The EHF Executive Committee has approved the request from the organising committee of Norway and Denmark to extend the schedule and add an additional host city for the Women’s EHF EURO 2020.

A new schedule has been confirmed with the event starting already on 3 December 2020 for the opening matches of groups A and C. The Women’s EHF EURO 2020 was initially scheduled from 4 to 20 December 2020.

With the new schedule, teams receive an additional rest day (9 December) between the preliminary and the main round.

"With the new schedule we are getting closer to our ambition to provide the best possible conditions, both for the participating countries and for the handball fans who will come to support their teams”, said Kia Otnes, Project Manager Women's EHF EURO 2020 in Norway.

“Starting on 3 December 2020, the new tournament schedule ensures more time for the players to recover. Together with our friends in Denmark, and our local organising committees in Trondheim, Stavanger and Oslo, we are looking forward to welcoming everyone to this spectacular event, with the final weekend at Telenor Arena as the ultimate pinnacle of the EHF EURO.”

Frederikshavn to host preliminary group

A new preliminary round host city in Denmark was also confirmed by the EHF Executive Committee. The city of Frederikshavn will join Herning as Danish host. In Norway, Trondheim will host two preliminary round groups.

Herning will also host one main round group together with Norwegian city Stavanger. The final weekend will be played in the 12,000 capacity Telenor Arena in Norway’s capital, Oslo.

“Exactly ten years later, we are again co-hosting the EHF EURO with Norway. The 2010 championship was the first EHF EURO with two hosts, and it was a great success”, said Morten Stig Christensen, Secretary General of the Danish Handball Association.

“I dare say that handball fans can expect an even more remarkable event in 2020. In Denmark, we are looking forward to playing our matches in the amazing Jyske Bank Boxen in Herning, but also to having the Arena Nord in Frederikshavn which successfully hosted a group during the 2015 Women’s World Championship.”
