Following an impressive career with three EHF Champions League titles and eight medals in international competitions with the national team, Spanish superstar Viran Morros finally stepped away from handball in 2024, aged 40.
He spent the first 18 years of his career in Spain, joining FC Barcelona in 2000 and developing as a young player there for three seasons. After playing for Teucro and Ademar León, the left back made it to BM Ciudad Real, where he secured two consecutive EHF Champions League trophies with the team, in 2008 and 2009. The third title in the premium competition arrived six years later, during his second stint with Barcelona.
Paris Saint-Germain marked Viran Morros’ first club abroad, where he stayed between 2018 and 2021, then moved to Füchse Berlin for one season. In 2022, he signed with Pfadi Winterthur, the last club in his professional playing career.
Doubling as a defence specialist, the left back was part of one of the most successful generations in Spanish handball and spent two decades with the national team, making 259 appearances and scoring 169 goals, placing fourth in the all-time most capped players for Spain.
After his national team debut in 2004, he waited almost seven years for his first medal — bronze at the 2011 IHF World Championship. The left back managed to clinch gold at the next edition, in 2013, as well as two EHF EURO trophies in 2018 and 2020.
His remarkable skills in defence helped him become part of the All-star Team at the EHF EURO 2012, as well as win trophies for best defender of the Spanish national league for seven seasons in total.
