Leipzig look to close a one-goal deficit

Everything is still open in the all-German contest between HC Leipzig and TuS Metzingen, which will continue in the Women’s EHF Cup fixtures this weekend. Leipzig should have a narrow edge, as they enter the second leg of the quarter-finals only one goal down and can look forward to playing at home.

Metzingen won the first match at home 25:24, and Leipzig coach Norman Rentsch is expecting another close match on Sunday afternoon.

“I am sure that everyone knows what this is about and how the form of the day decides between victory and defeat in matches between equal teams.

“The situation is clear, and we are going to give all it takes,” Rentsch told HC Leipzig’s official website.

Before the all-German clash on Sunday, the first quarter-final match of the weekend will be played in Hungary.

Russian side Astrakhanochka will visit Hungarian Dunaujvarosi Kohasz Kezilabda Akademia for a double-header, the first leg of which will take place on Friday evening with the return match played on Sunday.

In the Scandinavian derby between H 65 Höörs Handbollsklubb and Randers HK from Denmark, the Swedish side are looking to close a three-goal deficit after losing 30:27 in Randers last weekend.

Three goals do not represent a big difference in handball, and the optimism is obvious in Höör ahead of the return match in Björkvikshallen on Saturday afternoon.

“The result in Denmark gives us very good chances in the second match,” said Höör centre back Anna Johansson.

The last match in the quarter-finals this weekend is to be played in Romania, where ASC Corona Brasov look very close to the semi-final.

Brasov won their first match against HC Odense clearly, with a final score of 29:21 in Denmark, and the Romanian team should be able to finish the job in Dumitru Popescu Colibasi Sports Hall in Brasov on Sunday afternoon.
