Only a few days after a spectacular last match of the 2015/16 season the preparations for the new season in the European club competitions is in full swing as the dates for the first three draw events have been confirmed.
The upcoming 2016/17 season will be the first one in the EHF history with only six competitions to be played after Women’s Cup Winners’ Cup and Women’s EHF Cup merge together.
Qualification groups
After the EHF Executive committee will decide on all participants for the European top flight in both genders the draw of qualification groups will take place on 29 June (13:00 hrs local time) at the EHF Office in Vienna.
Group stage
Just two days later the focus will shift to Glostrup on the outskirts of Copenhagen as the headquarters of SELECT, the EHF’s new official ball supplier, will host the draw event of the VELUX EHF Champions League Group Phase and Women’s EHF Champions League Group Matches.
Other European Cups
The remaining four continental club competitions will be drawn on Tuesday 19 July (11:00 hrs) in Vienna. The pairings of the first playing rounds in the Women’s and Men’s EHF Cup and Women’s and Men’s Challenge Cup will be determined.
The playing action of the new season will commence in the first weekend of September when the qualification tournament(s) in the VELUX EHF Champions League and the first leg matches of the first qualification round of the Men’s EHF Cup will be played.
