Zagreb on hunt for a new coach, Barcelona lose Tomas

Zagreb searching a new coach

Prvo Plinarsko Drustvo will not be the only new name of the perennial Croatian champions from Zagreb in the new season after the club and their coach Boris Dvorsek agreed on a termination of his contract. Dvorsek's assistants Zlatko Saracevic and Mario Kelentric steered the team to a 29:28 win in Brest on Saturday in a SEHA liga match, but the club management is expected to announce the name of the new head coach at the beginning of the upcoming week.

Kragujevac with a new anthem

WHC Radnicki Kragujevac, the hosts of the Qualification Tournament 2 in the Women's EHF Champions League released their new anthem. The music and the lyrics of the song were written by Zoran Lazarevic, but Kragujevac players aka Tigrice (She-Tigers) and their supporters Crveni Djavoli (Red Devils) also contributed with their voices. The song could hardly got a better competition start as Radnicki eliminated in the semi-final the tournament's main favourites FC Midtjylland who participated at the MVM EHF FINAL4 last season.

Double captain

The Rhein Neckar Löwen icon Uwe Gensheimer cannot complain about the lack of responsibility in the upcoming season. The fan favourite of the Mannheim-based club will not only lead the charge of Lions in the VELUX EHF Champions League, but also in the German national team after their new coach Dagur Sigurdsson confirmed the 27-year-old left winger for this position.

Sort of homecoming for Barbeito

It was a sort of homecoming for Fernando Barbeito on Sunday when he returned to Palau Blaugrana with his new team Puente Genil for the Asobal game (31:16). Barbeito spent twelve years in FC Barcelona lifting four European trophies with the “Dream Team” of the coach Valero Rivera (the Champions Cup in 1991 and the EHF Champions League in 1996, 1997 and 1998). The former winger followed the path of his former Barcelona teammates who switched to coaching  positions all over the world after their playing career came to an end (Thomas Svensson in Germany's SC Magdeburg and the Danish national team, Antonio Carlos Ortega in Hungary's Veszprem, Mateo Guarralda in Romania's Stiinta Bacau, Demetrio Lozano in Aragon or Rafa Guijosa in Iran's Alhojaj Sabzevar).

Tomas out for one month

Staying with the record winners of the EHF Champions League – FC Barcelona as they were hit by the bad news just before the start of a new season. Their captain Victor Tomas fractured his right hand in the game vs Anaitasuna and will be out for one month. Joan Saubich Mir will see more Champions League action on the right wing position in the first three rounds as Blaugranas travel to Sweden's Alingsas and host Orlen Wisla Plock and Besiktas.
